Mind Reading Show Formats: Mingle or Stage for Your Event?
Updated: Oct 2
Planners often ask which kind of mind reading show they need. The honest answer is that it depends on how your guests will be spending the evening. I offer two formats, and they do different jobs.

The Mingle Format: Roaming Mind Reading
Mingle Mind Reading happens in small groups, up close, in the middle of a cocktail hour or reception. No stage and no setup. It's built to create conversation, so it shines when your goal is connection.
Choose it when guests are standing, when people don't know one another, when the venue has no stage, or when you want entertainment that doesn't pause the event.
The Stage Format: A Seated Comedy Mentalism Show
The comedy mentalism show is a full-room performance with volunteers on stage, built for dinners, galas, conferences, and company celebrations. It creates a shared moment where the entire room laughs at the same time.
Choose it when you have a seated audience, when you want a centerpiece, or when you need the room's attention in one place.

A Simple Way to Decide
Picture your guests ten minutes into the event. If they're holding drinks and wandering, you want a mingle set. If they're at tables facing a stage, you want a show. If both are true at different points in the night, book both and let one performer carry callbacks from the first to the second.
How Long Does Each Format Run?
A mingle set typically runs across your reception window, moving from group to group. A stage show is a set length that slots into the program. Both can be adjusted. The best way to figure out what fits is a quick call about your agenda, guest count, and goals.

Common Combinations I See
A few pairings come up again and again. A cocktail hour that leads into a seated dinner often uses a mingle set first and a stage show after. A conference reception might use mingle only, because the goal is conversation. A gala or awards night often benefits from both, with the show placed between courses or before the final presentation.
Smaller events are simpler. A company dinner for 30 people might be best served by a single stage set, since everyone is already together. A large standing reception with several hundred guests may need extra time for mingling so more groups can be reached.
If you're unsure, describe your agenda and I'll tell you honestly which one I'd choose. Sometimes the right answer is the one that costs less, and I'm glad to say so.
